Our Patron - His Excellency Lieutenant General The Honourable Sir Jerry Mateparae, GNZM, QSO is the Foundation’s sole patron. PCF has been privileged receive vice regal patronage since our inception and launch at Government House in 2003.
The Pacific Cooperation Foundation is an independent public/private sector trust whose mission is to increase cooperation and understanding amongst the peoples of both the Pacific Islands and New Zealand.
The Foundation was formed in 2002 but formally launched by the Governor General in August 2003. The activities of the Foundation are based on principles of accountability, integrity and mutual respect. In pursuit of our mission the objectives of the Foundation are:
1. Promote:
- New Zealand’s identity as a Pacific nation;
- Media, cultural and public affairs programmes which increase mutual awareness and understanding;
- Cooperative projects which benefit New Zealand and Pacific Islands businesses;
- Wider understanding through education and academic excellence in Pacific issues.
2. Work to establish itself as a centre for information and provide a forum for the exchange of views about issues affecting New Zealand and other countries of the Pacific.
3. Act as a focal point and catalyst for the development of networks among New Zealanders and other people of the Pacific, to the benefit of all.
4. Seek sustainable funding from appropriate sources.
5. Undertake any other activities which advance its vision.
