Internship Programmes

Building pathways for Pacific future leaders

We connect talented Manaaki New Zealand Scholarship students from the Pacific with meaningful work experience in Aotearoa New Zealand. Our Internship Programmes allow scholars to apply their studies in real workplaces, while helping host organisations benefit from the skills, energy, and perspectives of the Pacific’s future leaders.

For Scholars

Gain hands-on experience, grow your networks, and strengthen your readiness for employment.

Our internships run for 6–8 weeks between November and February and are designed to:

  • Provide professional work experience in reputable New Zealand companies and organisations

  • Build valuable professional networks and industry insights

  • Prepare you for meaningful employment when you return home

Internships are unpaid, but PCF provides a stipend to cover travel and clothing costs. Your regular Manaaki New Zealand Scholarship stipend continues during your internship.

PCF matches you with host employers based on your field of study, career aspirations, and location. For example, if you are studying in Dunedin, we will endeavour to secure a host employer in Dunedin.

For Employers

Shape the Pacific’s future workforce while gaining fresh perspectives.

By hosting a Manaaki Scholar, you:

  • Access skilled, motivated students from across the Pacific region

  • Strengthen your organisation’s diversity and cultural intelligence

  • Contribute to building Pacific leaders of the future

  • Gain support on projects, research, or busy seasonal periods

As a host employer, you provide:

  • Work in a specialist field aligned to the student’s study

  • Supervision, mentoring, and workplace support

  • Resources required to complete assigned tasks

Selection Process

A selection panel reviews applications. Preference is given to students who:

  • Show strong academic achievement

  • Demonstrate leadership, character, and community service

  • Can clearly articulate what they hope to learn from an internship

Shortlisted applicants are then reviewed by host organisations, with interviews arranged if required. All applicants are notified of outcomes in September–October.

Why PCF?

We are uniquely placed to deliver internship opportunities that bridge the Pacific and New Zealand. With a proven track record in talent development, alumni engagement, and workforce readiness, PCF ensures that every placement benefits both the scholar and the host organisation.
