Gladys Habu

Former Miss Solomon islands, Gladys Habu is a passionate young climate advocate and influencer.

Gladys has campaigned for years at the local, regional and international levels to increase awareness of the impact of climate change. Being recognized earlier this year by Her Majesty the Queen, she received the 168th Commonwealth Point of Light award.

She has teamed up with Australian researchers to track the disappearance of islands to rising sea level across the Solomon Islands. She is also a UNICEF Pacific Ambassador, focused on improving child and maternal health through her work around nutrition, immunisation, climate change and also the prevention of COVID-19.

An island I held so close to my heart slowly being washed away, Carla island of which I stand today, was my grandparents home. This personal loss prompted my journey as a climate advocate

Her climate work has been focused on amplifying the voices of those directly affected by climate change, particularly in ensuring that Small Island Developing States are engaged in global discussions on important environmental issues. She’s taken her fight to the international stage, making sure world leaders at COP26 were aware of impacts of climate change in her community.
