Why We Are Becoming Pacific Collaborative Futures
A deeper look at our strategic reset and what it means for the region
Today marks an important milestone in our organisation’s journey. After more than two decades as the Pacific Cooperation Foundation, we are stepping forward with a refreshed strategic identity and a new public‑facing name: Pacific Collaborative Futures.
This shift is more than a name change. It is a deliberate, future‑focused reset — one that reflects who we are today, the work we deliver, and the role we must play in a rapidly changing Pacific system.
Why now?
Across Aotearoa New Zealand and the Pacific region, the landscape has shifted. New decision‑makers, new regional priorities, and new expectations have emerged. Yet many partners — especially those newer to the system — have told us they are not always clear on what PCF uniquely does or why our role matters.
We heard this feedback. We took it seriously. And we acted.
Our repositioning responds directly to this moment. It provides the clarity, confidence and strategic coherence needed to strengthen our partnerships, deepen our impact, and secure the core investment required to continue serving Pacific communities.
What remains the same
Our Vision and Mission remain unchanged.
Our commitment to strengthening Pacific peoples’ mana, identity and opportunity remains at the heart of everything we do.
We continue to be an organisation grounded in Pacific values, trusted relationships, and a belief in the power of collaboration.
The acronym PCF stays with us — honouring our legacy while signalling our evolution.
What is changing
What changes is the way we express our purpose and the clarity with which we describe our role.
As Pacific Collaborative Futures, we are making visible the work we have always done:
turning evidence and dialogue into action and impact.
Our refreshed identity strengthens our ability to articulate our unique role as an independent connector, catalyst, convener and influencer — roles that government agencies, philanthropic partners and regional organisations increasingly rely on but cannot easily replicate.
Our three flagship areas of impact
The repositioning elevates three areas where PCF has a proven track record and a distinctive niche:
1. Pacific Talent, Leadership & Workforce Pathways
We support Pacific scholars and emerging leaders to gain work experience, capability and confidence so they return home ready to contribute to national development.
2. Evidence, Insight & Convening
Through initiatives like the Perceptions Report, we provide trusted Pacific‑led insights and create spaces for dialogue that strengthen identity, deepen relationships and amplify Pacific voices.
3. Pacific Innovation & Entrepreneurship
We back Pacific youth and diaspora entrepreneurs through capability‑building, exposure and regional partnerships, including international cohorts that expand horizons and networks.
These three streams reflect our strengths, our credibility, and the areas where partners consistently seek our leadership.
A name that reflects our future
The name Pacific Collaborative Futures captures the essence of our work:
• Pacific — our people, our region, our purpose
• Collaborative — the partnerships, relationships and shared capability that define our approach
• Futures — the long‑term impact we are building toward
It is youthful, dynamic, and aligned with the aspirations of the communities we serve.
What this means for our partners
This repositioning gives our partners — across government, philanthropy, business and the region — a clearer understanding of:
• what we do
• why we do it
• and the unique value we bring
It strengthens our ability to work alongside others, to convene across sectors, and to support Pacific peoples to lead with confidence.
Looking ahead
This is a new chapter for PCF — one grounded in clarity, purpose and momentum.
We are excited to step forward as Pacific Collaborative Futures, and we look forward to working with partners across the region to strengthen Pacific capability, leadership and opportunity.
